You are invited to come to the library and read to a furry listener on the third Wednesday of each month when therapy dogs and their handlers visit the library. The concept is simple: participants read to therapy dogs and dogs listen. Learning to read can be difficult but dogs don't mind if a reader stumbles over a word. Dogs just gaze adoringly as they are read to, helping readers gain confidence and skill in a relaxed atmosphere. Research shows that petting an animal also helps lower the stress hormone cortisol. Participants can also borrow some library books and enjoy coloring and activity sheets. Our therapy dogs are certified and also very cute!
